The door opened for animators to take a chance on something new and different, and they were eager to experiment. Into the Spider-Verse wasn’t the first movie to reject the Pixar-influenced style of CG animation, but it was the first with such a distinct look to really reach American audiences, gain widespread critical success, and most importantly for studio heads, make a lot of money. Apart from the occasional Studio Ghibli movie, however, the majority of American audiences have been infamously indifferent to foreign animation. Across the world, animators pushed the boundaries of what CG could be and fleshed out the hand-drawn animation that major American studios abandoned. While American animation has stuck with one style for pretty much the last 20 years, international studios haven’t been bound by those expectations. Part of the long-standing limits they faced did come from the physical restrictions on what computers could render, but part of it was simply what studio executives deemed worth investing in. But now, American directors have more of a choice - one they weren’t allowed to make before Into the Spider-Verse proved that audiences were hungry for stylistic experimentation. Last summer’s The Sea Beast, for instance, definitely skews toward the side of realism, especially when it comes to the crashing ocean waves. Not every single animator out there is trying to break away from verisimilitude. “When it came to shading clothing or skin textures, there was just a little bit more of an artistic touch to it.” “There’s just something tactile that you kind of feel is missing from a lot of CG animation,” Turning Red director Domee Shi says. And we’re like No, I would love it to be a beautiful line that is simple and poetic.” But Casarosa sought more warmth and expression for the water in his film: “The computer wants to do a beautiful splash of water that has every single droplet in it. For a long time, animators coveted the ability to animate photorealistic water - rendering convincing, believable textures was the ultimate goal. When it came to that 2020 sea monster movie, animating water offered an interesting scenario. Luca Image: Pixar Turning Red Image: Pixar It’s a little bit more: Oh, but can I actually not make it look realistic?” says Enrico Casarosa, director of Pixar’s Luca. Now it’s more about, how do you use it? So it’s not like we have to make a completely new tool. “We’re at this place where so much has been conquered. You can see the trend is shifting a little bit.” “I find … ‘boring’ is probably excessive, but I want to see something different,” says The Bad Guys director Pierre Perifel. There’s nothing inherently wrong with that, but in the same way that it got tedious to see other studios copying Disney’s musical formula in the post-Renaissance era, it can be tiresome to see the same visual style over and over - not just for audiences, but for the animators creating these movies. And while technology has radically changed animation from the days of Toy Story to 2022’s Lightyear, chasing realism became the stylistic norm. After one last wave of traditional cel animation, CG became the norm stateside. The Disney house style defined cartoons for decades, and when Pixar started releasing movies, it set a series of CG standards that everyone else reached for. Puss in Boots: The Last Wish Image: DreamWorks The Bad Guys Image: DreamWorksįor most of the history of American animation, studios have been copying past successes. Not only did it show audiences what animated movies could look like, it also emboldened directors and animators to push the boundaries of accepted aesthetics and take a chance on more stylized and personal art. Its stylized approach celebrates animation as an anything-goes medium. In 2018, the first Spider-Verse movie redefined not just superhero blockbuster movies (and if you want to get specific, Spider-Man movies), but also American animation as a whole. Like so many American animated movies released in the last few years, The Last Wish veers away from the aesthetic that defined American animation for decades, working toward a more impressionistic and dynamic design.Īnd for that, we have Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse to thank. But it doesn’t just give an existing series a makeover. When Polygon asked Januel Mercado, co-director of Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, about animation that inspired the visual look of his DreamWorks movie, he had an easy answer: “Obviously Spider-Verse.” The movie’s evocative oil-painted style doesn’t look like the Shrek franchise that spawned it. 8/13/2023 0 Comments Presonus revelator io24Die Gehäuseoberseite des Interfaces zerkratzt relativ schnell, auch bei vorsichtiger Behandlung.Hier macht es Sinn, mit einem separat schaltbaren USB-Hub zu arbeiten, auch, um ein Einbrennen des Displays zu vermeiden. Yunchan Lim Plays Mendelssohn ‘Fantasie in F# minor Op. One might be at odds with his rather aggressive approach, sometimes at risk of over-dramatising the music, where more classicism in the overarching conception of the work would have been appreciated. While his dexterity was unfailingly remarkable, the exceedingly fast tempo in the third movement (despite the tempo marking Presto) somehow compromised the nuances and rendered the piece almost Lisztian. The scintillating passagework was sensitively crafted with colouristic dynamic gradations. His personality was more conspicuous in Mendelssohn’s Fantasy in F-sharp minor, Op. His reading of the final Ballade in B major, particularly in the middle section marked “col intimissimo sentiment, ma senza troppo marcare la melodia” (with the most intimate sentiment, but without marking the melody too much), conjured up an inexplicable amalgamation of tenderness, suspense and frustration, with a tinge of poignancy. The second Ballade in D major enjoyed an effective shift in tonal palette, in keeping with the warmth conveyed by the first section, while the contrasting anguish and ethereal beauty in the third Ballade in B minor were duly captured. Inspired by the Scottish poem Edward by Johann Gottfried Herder, the first Ballade in D minor at times achieved a monologue-like intensity with the text clearly in Lim’s mind, exuding potent despair and struggle, although his forte was occasionally harsh in its tone. The Ballades were given a dramatic narrative throughout under Lim’s hands, traversing an expansive emotional landscape. 10, which were composed in 1854 when his affection for Clara Schumann was deepening. Some people online point out that there are downsides to having bluetooth enabled midi keyboards, but I really don’t see much serious downsides to them. Honestly this is the way of the future for me at least. Sure, you could plug into play it……but why? Yes, this is another device that literally connects with Bluetooth. Hate wires? Like hippies with cool gadgets? Watch this review from Sweetwater if you’re interested. Which I thought was really strange, it’s also stupid affordable so looks like I’ll be getting one in the future. That being said, it doesn’t LOOK like it would feel comfortable to play….but most people online said it was actually more comfortable to play than your average midi controller. It doesn’t look a lot like other midi keyboard controllers. What I like most about it, is that it’s retro futuristic looking. It’s Bluetooth connected, so you don’t need any wires.ĪND it will connect to any DAW (GarageBand, Fl Studio, Ableton, etc) immediately. This midi controller in particular seems to be really HOT right now with a lot of people. The Irig keys pro IS more expensive….but not terribly. The pro feels more like a real piano, where the regular Irig keys has more spring when you press down on the keys. They may not look that small online, but in person they’re honestly a pain (for me). The first and most obvious is of course the size. The only real differences are three things. If you notice, all the same stuff is on both of them. So, you’re probably wondering…….what’s the difference between this and the pro? but it’s actually pretty cool seeing what can be done with it………if you stick around to the end btw, you’ll hear “the best song you’ve ever heard” lol. I used to think that garage band wasn’t the best DAW…. Which by the way, are also really fun and simple to use.ĭefinitely stick around to the end of this video, it’s really cool to see what can be done on GarageBand. If you’re interested in using this model… I definitely suggest watching this video below of the Irig being used with other Irig Products. They are surprisingly well-built as well. There’s absolutely no set up that needs to be involved at all with the Irig model. This is literally just plug-in, and play. If you want the absolute simplest of simple……Irig is the way to go. Ones that are easy set up (just plug in and you’re good to go) In this article, we’ll talk about the best midi keyboards for iPad. |
